長崎の名所「出島」を訪れたのは夕刻。空が茜色に染まり、川面にその光が映り込む光景は幻想的でした。
江戸時代、日本と世界をつなぐ唯一の窓口だった出島。今では周囲が埋め立てられ、島の姿は失われていますが、水路や護岸にその名残を感じることができます。
I visited Dejima, a historical site in Nagasaki, at dusk. The sky turned crimson, and its reflection on the water created a magical scene.
During the Edo period, Dejima served as Japan’s sole window to the outside world. Although it is no longer an island due to land reclamation, remnants of waterways and stone embankments still preserve its memory.

入場料は大人520円。歴史を体感できるスポットとしてはお手頃です。
The admission fee is 520 yen for adults — quite reasonable for experiencing a place of such history.

夕陽が沈む頃、川面に映る雲と光のグラデーションは息をのむ美しさでした。観光客も足を止め、しばし夕景を楽しんでいました。
As the sun set, the gradient of clouds and light mirrored on the water was breathtaking. Visitors stopped to admire the view.
名残の水路と護岸 / Remnants of Moats and Embankments
出島は現在陸続きですが、周囲に保存された水路や護岸が往時を物語っています。布積みと呼ばれる工法で石が積まれ、復元には当時の技術が使われています。
Though Dejima is now connected to the mainland, its moats and embankments remind us of its past. Stones were stacked using the traditional “nunozumi” method, faithfully restored with original techniques.
出島が果たした役割 / The Role of Dejima
出島は江戸時代、日本と海外を結ぶ唯一の貿易の窓口でした。オランダ商館を通じて、アジアの物資やヨーロッパの知識が日本に流入しました。
当時の人々にとって出島は「日本にあったヨーロッパ」であり、文明や文化が交わる特別な場所だったのです。
During the Edo period, Dejima was Japan’s only trade gateway. Through the Dutch factory, Asian goods and European knowledge entered Japan. For contemporaries, Dejima was seen as “Europe within Japan,” a special place where cultures and civilizations intertwined.
出島の歴史展示 / Dejima’s Historical Exhibits
日本側で出島管理を担ったのが乙名。商館員の監視や貿易事務を務め、建物は役所や番所としても使われました。
Prominent Japanese residents called Otona managed Dejima’s affairs, supervising trade and monitoring Dutch employees. Their residence also functioned as an office and guard station.
商館長（カピタン）の部屋は出島で最も大きな建物で、住居であり商館の拠点でもありました。
The Chief Factor’s Residence (Kapitan’s house) was the largest building, serving as both residence and trading headquarters of the Dutch.
出島には青銅製の大砲も展示されています。オランダ東インド会社の刻印があり、往時の貿易船の装備を今に伝えています。
A bronze cannon is on display, bearing the VOC mark of the Dutch East India Company — a reminder of the maritime power that supported Dejima’s trade.
夕刻に訪れることで、歴史と夕景の両方を楽しめる出島。長崎の旅ではぜひ立ち寄っていただきたいスポットです。
Visiting at dusk allows you to enjoy both history and scenery. Dejima is a must-see when exploring Nagasaki.
