The Road to Tenka Fubu – A Historical Journey Tracing Nobunaga’s Footsteps

「名古屋郷土三英傑特集」最初の１人は「織田信長（1534–1582）」です
戦国時代を代表する革新者であり、後の天下統一の礎を築いた武将です。
大胆な軍事戦略、新しい経済政策、宗教勢力への徹底抗戦など、その存在は常に時代の先を行っていました。
彼のスローガン「天下布武（てんかふぶ）」は、「武によって天下に秩序をもたらす」という信念を表しています。
その志半ばで本能寺に倒れた信長ですが、日本の近世への扉をこじ開けた存在として、今なお強烈な印象を残しています。

Oda Nobunaga (1534–1582) was a revolutionary warlord of Japan’s Sengoku period who laid the foundations for national unification.
He was known for his bold military strategies, economic reforms, and his uncompromising stance against religious powers.
His motto, Tenka Fubu (“Rule the realm by force”), reflected his belief in restoring order through military power.
Though he perished at Honno-ji before completing his ambitions, Nobunaga remains one of the most iconic and influential figures in Japanese history.

勝幡城跡｜Shobata Castle Ruins（愛西市）

信長の生誕地とされる場所。現在は住宅地に石碑がひっそりと建ち、戦国の息吹を感じられます。
Believed to be Nobunaga’s birthplace. A stone marker quietly stands in a residential area, evoking the dawn of the Sengoku era.

清洲城｜Kiyosu Castle（清須市）

信長が尾張統一を目指し拠点とした城。現在は復元天守と城下公園が整備されています。
The base where Nobunaga aimed to unify Owari Province. The reconstructed keep and park commemorate his ambition.

那古野城跡｜Nagoya Castle Area（名古屋市）

信長が幼少期を過ごした那古野城の跡地は現在の名古屋城の敷地内に含まれています。
The remains of Nobunaga’s childhood home now lie within Nagoya Castle grounds.

木瓜道｜Mokko-michi（名古屋市）

桶狭間出陣時、信長が熱田へ向けて通ったとされる古道。「木瓜」は織田家の家紋に由来。
An old road Nobunaga’s army likely marched along. “Mokko” refers to the Oda family crest.

熱田神宮｜Atsuta Shrine（名古屋市）

桶狭間の戦いの前に信長が戦勝祈願をしたと伝わる名社。
The sacred site where Nobunaga is said to have prayed before the Battle of Okehazama.

桶狭間古戦場｜Okehazama Battlefield（豊明市）

今川義元を破った劇的な奇襲戦。現在は整備された歴史公園になっています。
The dramatic battlefield of Nobunaga’s surprise victory over Imagawa Yoshimoto.

小牧山城｜Komaki Castle（小牧市）

信長が美濃攻略のために築いた山城。展望台からの眺望が見事です。
A strategic hilltop fortress built to aid in the conquest of Mino. The views are spectacular.

犬山城｜Inuyama Castle（犬山市）

信長の叔父・信康が築いた現存天守。木曽川沿いの景観も美しい。
One of Japan’s original castles, built by Nobunaga’s uncle. Picturesque location by the Kiso River.

岐阜城｜Gifu Castle（岐阜市）

稲葉山城を攻略後、「岐阜」と改称し天下布武の拠点に。金華山頂上にそびえ立ちます。
Renamed from Inabayama to Gifu, this mountain castle became the base of Nobunaga’s unification dream.

千種峠｜Chikusa Pass（滋賀・岐阜県境）

金ヶ崎の退き口で、信長が命からがら越えた険しい峠道。
A dangerous escape route used by Nobunaga during his retreat from Kanegasaki.

今井町｜Imai Town（奈良県橿原市）

織田軍の服属要請を退けた自立自治の町。江戸時代の町並みが今も残ります。
An autonomous merchant town that resisted Nobunaga. Edo-period streets remain beautifully preserved.

本能寺跡｜Site of Honno-ji（京都市中京区）

1582年、明智光秀に襲撃され、信長が自刃した地。現在は石碑が建つのみ。
The site where Nobunaga died during the Honno-ji Incident. Today, only a quiet stone monument remains.

（補遺）養源院｜Yogen-in Temple（京都市東山区）

養源院は、豊臣秀吉の側室・淀君（信長の妹お市の方の娘・浅井三姉妹長女茶々）が、父・浅井長政（信長の妹お市の方の夫）と祖父・浅井久政らの二十一回忌の供養のために建立を願い、創建された浅井氏の菩提寺です。
This temple was originally established by Yodo-dono, concubine of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the deaths of her father Azai Nagamasa and grandfather Azai Hisamasa. It served as the family temple of the Azai clan.

火災で焼失した後は、淀君の妹であり、徳川秀忠の正室となったお江の方（崇源院・信長の妹お市の方の娘・浅井三姉妹三女）の願により再興され、
以後は徳川将軍家の菩提所としての役割も担っていきました。
After it was destroyed by fire, the temple was rebuilt through the request of Oeyo (posthumously Sugen-in), sister of Yodo-dono and wife of Tokugawa Hidetada, the second shogun. It later became a Tokugawa family temple as well.

戦国から江戸へと移りゆく時代のなかで、浅井・豊臣・徳川という三つの時代をつなぐ数奇な歴史を背負った寺なのです。
Yogen-in thus carries a unique and layered legacy, linking the Azai, Toyotomi, and Tokugawa families through the turbulent transition from Sengoku to Edo.

また、本堂の天井には、伏見城で討死した武士たちの床板を移した「血天井」が現存し、戦国の悲劇を今に伝えています。
The temple also preserves a "blood-stained ceiling" made from the floorboards where samurai fell during the fall of Fushimi Castle—a haunting reminder of the age of war.
